With over half of the results now declared in yesterday's
local elections in England and Wales, Labour looks to
be heading for its worst performance for a quarter of
a century.
A BBC
projection based on results already in suggests that
the Liberal Democrats will relegate Labour to third
place nationally.
The prediction is Conservatives 44%; Lib Dems 25%;
Labour 24%.
As I write (4.0 am), the Tories are racing ahead. With
95 of 159 councils declared, they have gained 133 seats
and control of six councils. Labour have lost 134 seats
and five councils, including Bury to the Conservatives.
Of course, Labour people will now be 'learning lessons'
about their need to 'listen to people's concerns' thus
conceding how little they cared about this country before
their humiliating defeat.
This was very clear before: just scroll down the list
of articles on my 'latest news & views' page and
let the depraved nature of Labour's tenure sink in.
We await the result from London to see who has been
elected Mayor with bated breath.
