Labour supporters who loaned millions to the party
are being told they may not get the money back for almost
a decade, it was claimed last night.
The extraordinary move was sanctioned because Gordon
Brown is "desperately worried" about Labour's £20million
debts, Channel 4 News said.
The party is said to have met some of its richest backers
in secret this week, asking for nine years to repay
its loans.
A senior Labour official said: "The deal is a nine-year
rescheduling of the loans with an ability for it to
be shorter than that if any of the loans turn into donations.
Each of the lenders has to be spoken to individually.
